Mancell Financial Group founder Peter Mancell has been reappointed to the role of chairman for the Global Association of Independent Advisors for a third year.
The Association comprises of 16 independent advisory firms across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and South America.
Mr Mancell toured some of the member firms on a recent trip to the US.
He said the Association assisted Tasmanian investors to receive world class investment advice.
“The trip was absolutely eye opening with respect for technology,” Mr Mancell said.
“The closeness of some firms to the innovation in Silicon Valley has lifted US financial advice offerings significantly over the past decade.”
Mr Mancell said in 2005 Australian technology was considered innovative, however, the industry had since slipped behind.
He said Australians could benefit from technology that allowed clients to access their financial goals and progress in real time.
“Technology can give us the ability to serve a bigger proportion of people,” Mr Mancell said.
“Especially the younger generation who would rather pick up their phones and search for information online.”
Mr Mancell said despite the issue of technology, Australia was on par with other member countries in terms of industry regulation and practice.
He said it was a positive sign a Burnie-based advisor had been elected to chair the global group.
“It shows that we have world class standards,” Mr Mancell said.
“Here we are, in a small regional town, and there are companies from major cities around the world that are happy to have a leader from the North-West.”
Mr Mancell said the Association held online meetings every three months, with the aim to share knowledge, experience and practical skills.
He said members would meet in the UK in August next year.
Mr Mancell will not be permitted to be nominated for the role of chair in 2018.
